MUMBAI: The seventh Dev Gandharva festival organized by Kalyan Gayan Samaj commenced on 12 December with ghazal performance by vocalist Hariharan. "There is a need for such organizations today to restore and preserve our rich culture with so many western influences," stated Hariharan before the concert. Accompanying him in the ghazal night were versatile musicians - Shahdab Bhartiya on tabla, Sanjay Mishra on guitar, Ustad Liyakat Ali Khan on the sarangi and Altaq Hussain on the harmonium.

MUMBAI: Kalyan Mitra, general manager of North Bengal FM venture Radio High 92.7 FM has put in his papers. Mitra says he is poised to join the Zee Network as Business Manager of ICNCL, a Zee subsidiary. Mitra has been involved closely with the setting up and running of the radio station, operational in Siliguri. The catchline of the station, catch line Uttorer Gaan- Uttorer Pran... which means the music and the soul of the North... was integrated into the brand recently when the station, under Mitra, launched its own music albums under the High Music label.
