Madonna named top musician money spinner of '08

MUMBAI: Madonna was the music industry's biggest moneymaker last year, pulling in $242.2 million on the success of her Sticky & Sweet... tour, according to annual rankings released by Billboard Magazine. Rock band Bon Jovi ranked second with $157.2 million and Bruce Springsteen was third after making $156.3 million, according to Billboard, the music magazine owned by Nielsen Co. The rankings are based on sales from touring, albums, digital tracks and ring tones. Touring is the cash driver in the music business as album sales decline.

Sony renews licensing deal with YouTube

MUMBAI: Sony Music Entertainment has become the first of the four largest recording companies to renew a music licensing deal with YouTube, according to reports. The deal ensures that Sony artists, who include Bruce Springsteen and Beyonce, will remain on YouTube, according to the blog All Things Digital, which broke the news on  Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The initial deals with the labels enabled YouTube to showcase music videos and also allowed site visitors to include the label's songs in their clips.

Google to stop selling radio ads

MUMBAI: Google is exiting the radio business. The companys says it will be ending the Google Audio Ads program as of 31 May this year, and plans to sell the Google Radio Automation software business. Google announced earlier that it will stop selling newspaper ads.

MUMBAI: As the jazz world's great five - Mitch Forman, Chuck Loeb, Dave Weckl, Eric Marienthal, Melvin Davis took centrestage, musicians and music industry stalwarts from Bollywood gathered to watch world renowed jazz band Metro perform on 11 February in Mumbai.
