Pubcaster's pending isssues to be expedited with new CEO appointment: Soni

NEW DELHI: Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said Saturday that the appointment of a new chief executive officer for Prasar Bharati - Jawhar Sircar – would result in expediting all pending issues in the pubcaster, especially those related to employees. Vacancies in Doordarshan and All India Radio would be filled and efforts will be made to make all stations and those in the border areas functional, Soni said.

Facebook integrates Gaana.com into its Timeline

MUMBAI: Facebook has integrated the music site from Indiatimes Gaana.com as an application into its new Timeline. This will enable users to share the music they are listening to with their Facebook friends. The social networking site recently launched timeline apps with 60 applications to begin with. Timeline apps allow for real-world activities to be shared with friends. Gaana.com also built an iPad version using HTML5 in August 2011.

Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin to perform at Whitney Houston's funeral

MUMBAI: Renowned singer Stevie Wonder and soul star Aretha Franklin will perform at Whitney Houston’s funeral today. The service will take place at noon at the New Hope Baptist Church in New Jersey, where Houston performed in her youth. The singer’s long-time musical mentor Clive Davis will speak at the memorial service which will also witness performances by Alicia Keys, R Kelly and gospel singer Donnie McClurkin. The service will be streamed online and broadcast on network television to avoid thousands of fans from gathering at the venue.

BBC World Service to celebrate 80th birthday

Madonna tops VH1Æs list of top 100 women in music

MUMBAI: Madonna is still the reigning Queen of Pop, according to a poll of the 100 greatest women in music by VH1. She is followed by Mariah Carey and Beyonce, who take the second and third spots respectively. The honour for Madonna comes just before the release of her album MDNA. The late Whitney Houston came in at sixth position while Lady Gaga, Adele, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Mary J Blige and Pink rounded off the top 10. Rihanna, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears ranked among the top 20 on the list.

Digital music revenue up by 24.7% to 281.6mn: BPI

MUMBAI: The digital music revenues of British record companies increased by 24.7% to ?281.6mn in 2011, according to trade figures released by the BPI. Digital music earnings from online downloads, subscriptions, ad-supported services and mobile accounted for more than 35.4% of the industry’s total income as compared to 2010. Revenue from digital albums increased significantly by 43.2% in 2011 generating ?117.8mn in trade income, while earnings from digital single tracks rose 11.3% to ?120.5mn.

MUMBAI: The Calcutta High Court has passed an injunction order to all ISP’s and mobile services providers for banning music website www.songs.pk. Phonographic Performance Ltd, The Indian Music Industry and Sagarika Music Pvt Ltd are seeking a restraint on internet access to download, stream, disseminate, and reproduce copyright music on this site, according to a public notice.

Big FM Q3 operating profit jumps to Rs 44.15 mn

MUMBAI: Big FM, the FM radio brand of Reliance Broadcast Network (RBNL), has reported an amost 100 per cent jump in its operating profit (Ebit) for the three-month period ended 31 December 2011. This is for the fourth straight quarter, when the radio segment has posted an operating profit, even if all other businesses of RBNL are bleeding.
