Border areas to have 33 FM radio channels in Phase III

NEW DELHI: The government is to allow bidders in Jammu and Kashmir, the North-eastern states and the Island territories to bid for FM Radio channels in Phase III even above the national limit on ownership of channels of 15 per cent per entity. 15  FM stations will be set up in border areas of Jammu and Kashmir and 18 in the border areas of the seven states of North-east. This is being done to encourage bidding for channels in these areas, Information & Broadcasting Ministry sources told Radioandmusic.com

Universal Music Group inks deal with Rod Stewart

MUMBAI: Universal Music Group (UMG) has signed a long-term worldwide recording agreement with iconic artist Rod Stewart. As part of the multi-album deal, the two-time Hall of Famer will record his first Christmas album along with Grammy award-winning producer, songwriter David Foster. The album is scheduled to release by December via Verve Music Group (owned by UMG).

AIR to spend Rs 4 bn for strengthning transmission in border areas

NEW DELHI: All India Radio has proposed Rs 3 billion under a new scheme for adequate coverage in border areas in Jammu and Kashmir and the North-eastern part of the country. This is in addition to the continuing scheme under which Rs 1 billion has been proposed and the two schemes together will take care of the requirements of J and K and the North East in the 12th Plan. However, Information & Broadcasting Ministry sources told Radioandmusic.com that the approved outlay for the 12th Plan is yet to be received.

DJ Lucky Lou to rock India in July

MUMBAI: After David Guetta, Pitbull and Katy Perry the Indian international stage will once again open for ace hip-hop artiste DJ Lucky Lou. In his maiden tour to India, the hip-hop DJ will perform at the fifth edition of ‘Tuborg Zero Vh1 Hip Hop Hustle.’ The live concerts will commence on 4 July in Hyderabad, followed by Delhi on 6 July and Pune on 7 July.

AR Rahman scores for London Olympics opening Ceremony

MUMBAI:  AR Rahman has once again scored a track for Danny Boyle to be played at the inaugural ceremony of London Olympics 2012. Boyle is doing a three hour show ‘Isles of Wonder’ for the opening ceremony of the Olympics on 27 July. Interestingly, a song 'Naandhaan Ungappanda’ composed by Ilayaraja for the 1981 movie Ram Laxman will also be played at the ceremony. Earlier, Rahman has worked with Boyle in Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours.
