MUMBAI: After having several hats in multiple award-winning Bollywood film, 'Haider' as composer, director, producer and writer, Vishal Bhardwaj is switching to his first passion of music direction in the Ajay Devgan and Tabu starrer- 'Drishyam'.
The film is an emotional thriller, but Bhardwaj and legendary writer, Gulzar, wanted to create an item number for the film. Director Nishikant Kamat, however, did not allow it.
At a media interaction for the film where his song 'Carbon Copy' was screened, Bhardwaj said, "I and Gulzar sahab were keen on making an item number kind of song for this film. But Nishi (Kamat) came and disappointed us by saying that he wanted a song along the lines of 'Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le'.
"It happens rarely that directors approach us with songs of this kind of aesthetics," he said.
About producer Kumar Mangat, Bhardwaj said, "I had a great association with Kumarji for songs like 'Naina Thag Lenge' for 'Omkara'.
"But he (Mangat) doesn't free you till you give him a brilliant song. So I try to make a beautiful song just to get rid of him," he added.
On reuniting with Ajay after 'Omkara', the ‘Maqbool’ director said, "I really enjoyed working on this film. I don't blink my eyelids if I get the opportunity to work with Ajay and Kumarji since the most amazing experience of my life has been in ‘Omkara’. I really miss working with Ajay and Kumarji."
'Drishyam', along with Ajay, also stars Tabu and Shriya Saran, produced by Viacom 18 and Kumar Mangat, and will release on 31 July 2015.
