MUMBAI: The ‘Straight Outta Compton’ musical opened in the number one position at the North American box offices this weekend, with an estimated $56 million in ticket sales.

The Universal picture sold more tickets than the other six movies combined this week; Xinhua cited the studio estimates gathered by Rentrak.

Opening in 2,757 theatres, ‘Straight Outta Compton’ made a remarkable $20,345 per screen average.

The $28 million made musical film ‘Straight Outta Compton’ is based at a representative group called NWA.

It became the biggest August opening ever for an R-rated film, and the number one musical biopic.

Moviegoers gave ‘Straight Outta Compton’ an ‘A’ grade on audience polling firm CinemaScore.

Critics marked 88 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film played well among younger moviegoers which is about 51 percent of ticket buyers were younger than 30, and black audiences made up to 46 percent.
