MUMBAI: Music composer duo Sachin Jigar, known for creating quite a few chartbusters, has composed three songs for Coke Studio at MTV Season 4. Out of the three tracks, two are folk songs; one is Rajasthani folk and the other Gujarati.

"Jigar and I have had this discussion a lot of times. When it comes to Gujarati folk, people feel it is 'garba'. But if you dig deeper, you get to know that garba is just one aspect of folk. Since Coke Studio is an independent platform that allows you to create your own stuff, we thought of doing something for Gujarati folk," said the duo's Sachin Sanghvi about erasing the popular perception of Gujarati folk.

In order to create a proper folk song the duo travelled to Gujarat and somehow they got in touch with Kirtidan Gadhvi, a professor of music at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Gadhvi encouraged the duo to create a new folk song rather than remaking an old track.

The first song, 'Laadki', is based on a father-daughter relationship, wherein the latter is getting married and will soon move out of the house. The song depicts the emotions of the girl who tells her father that wherever she goes, she will be with him. 'Laadki', a Gujarati word, translates to beloved.

Vocals for the song have been rendered by Sanghvi's daughter- Tanishka, Kirtidan Gadhvi and Rekha Bhardwaj. Speaking about the track he said, "Recording Tanishka for the track was a very emotional experience for me as I realised someday even she would say the same thing to me. It was Jigar who pitched the idea of asking Tanishka to croon the part in which the daughter is still young. The part when she is about to get married is sung by Rekhaji. Also, not to forget Priyal Saraiya, who wrote such moving lyrics that I could not stop myself from getting emotional." Sanghvi revealed that Tanishka recorded her part within 15 minutes and even amazed her father with the composure she maintained behind the mic. The duo changed the key for Bhardwaj in order to match her vocal range.

The next song 'Saawan Mein' is about a girl who has just gone through a breakup and is in no mood to look back. The lyrics of the same are penned by Mayur Puri, while Jasmine Sandlas and Divya Kumar have rendered vocals for the track. "This song is a poetic 'thumri' which talks about the angst of the girl who has broken up with the person she loved and does not wish to see him again. We wanted to have a song which was aggressive and wanted a voice that could express the emotions in the same manner. For this we would like to thank MTV who helped find us the voice of Jasmine Sandlas," explained Sanghvi.

The third song 'Bannado', sung by Sachin-Jigar, Tochi Raina, Bhungarkhan Manganiar and group, is a fun track about a couple whose marriage is being arranged. The track revolves around the girl trying to make her mind up about whether or not she can trust the guy. "The song is a fun song. It has got a Rajasthani folk added to it and have tried incorporating a lot of blues and jazz to it," elucidated Sanghvi. Lyrics for 'Bannado' are penned by Priya Saraiya.

Recording for the three songs was completed in eleven days. The duo, who earlier this year appeared on MTV Unplugged, revealed that they are extremely happy with the association with Coke Studio at MTV.
