Prince to release 'The Hit & Run' exclusively on Jay Z's Tidal

MUMBAI: After being in news for having pulled out his music from all streaming sites the multi-platinum selling artist - Prince, has recently made news for locking a deal with Jay Z’s ‘Tidal’.

'The Purple Collective' musician has confirmed that his next release 'The Hit & Run' will be available exclusive on Tidal. The album will be available from 7 September, 2015.

‘The Hit & Run’ was first announced by his band, ‘3RDEYEGIRL’, on BBC radio late last month, following the release of the critically praised first single, ‘Hard Rock Lover’. Minutes after the song was released critics raved comparing the track with his old songs.

Prince worked with co-producer Joshua Welton on ‘The Hit & Run’. He was also a co-producer on Prince's ‘Art Offical Age’ album that released late last year.

The Prince-Tidal partnership cemented out of mutual admiration and respect and a profound belief in artists' rights. Their relationship took-off in May with Tidal live streaming the first hour of Prince's ‘Rally For Peace’ concert in Baltimore.

Prince stated, "After one meeting, it was obvious that Jay Z and the team he has assembled at Tidal recognise and applaud the effort that real musicians put into their craft to achieve the very best they can at this pivotal time in the music industry. Secondly, Tidal have honoured us with a non-restrictive arrangement that once again allows us to continue making art in the fashion we have grown accustomed to and we are extremely grateful for their generous support. And lastly, in the tech-savvy, real-time world we all live in today, everything is faster. From its conception and that one and only meeting, ‘The Hit & Run’ took about 90 days to prepare its release. If that's what freedom feels like, ‘The Hit & Run’ is what it sounds like."

Jay Z added, "Prince has always been a visionary, a free-thinker.We are honoured to offer his breadth of work, ‘1999’, ‘Purple Rain’, etc., music that has inspired so many, on Tidal. We're also excited to be the home for his new upcoming album, ‘The Hit & Run’. Both Prince and Tidal share the belief that all creatives should have the opportunity to speak directly to those that love and support them. This partnership with Prince represents Tidal’s philosophy in its truest form, a one to one connection and direct delivery of artistry to the world."
