Neeti Mohan dedicates 'Udne De' to Nirbhaya

MUMBAI: Not long ago, social media and the media were flooded with thousands of opinions on the documentary 'India's Daughter'. Like most people in the country, celebrities also expressed their opinion on the same. However, ‘Jiya Re’ singer Neeti Mohan went one step further and released a single that was dedicated to Nirbhaya.

“I wrote this song when the entire incident happened as I was very disturbed with the news that kept pouring in. Right from the time she was hospitalised to the day she passed away, so many of us tuned into the news, wondering whether or not she would survive. I was so deeply moved with the kind of pain that she went through, which is what triggered me to write the song. Initially I thought I would just write for myself, but then I felt like releasing it,” said Mohan.

The only thing that she kept in mind while composing music for the song was the seriousness of the issue. It took just a day to finish the shoot for the video. “I wanted to release the single on Women’s Day, which is why I did not have enough time to make a fancy video. So we decided to make something very natural,” she explained. The video features Mohan herself, and in the track she expresses her fear of being a girl. The video ends with Mohan weeping, and asking for her basic right to live fearlessly.

Mohan, who has watched the documentary ‘India’s Daughter’, feels that the film is nothing but a collection of various perceptions, and there was no need to ban it. “The documentary, more than anything, brings awareness. Whether it is the rapists or the lawyers, it is their opinion, thus there was no need to blow it out of proportion,” she said on a concluding note.
