'Indian Idol' senior and junior participants release 'Choona Hai Aasman'

MUMBAI: Ex 'Indian Idol' participants, Shashi Suman and Shivam Pathak, and the Top 10 contestants of this season of ‘Indian Idol Junior’ have teamed up for a new single ‘Choona Hai Aasma’. Suman and Pathak have composed the track, while vocals have been rendered by the young budding ‘Indian Idol Junior’ contestants. The song, which was released on Sunday, 26 July, was conceptualised by Sony LIV, the digital arm of MSM, which is the Sony TV network.

“‘Indian Idol’ has been an instrumental part in shaping our careers. We all started our journey with this show and it was a pleasure coming back here and recording with the kids. Sony LIV asked us to make an inspirational song for the kids who aspire to make it big in life,” said Pathak on the new single.

It took them four to five hours to record the track, and the biggest challenge was dividing the lines between the contestants. When asked to pick his favourite contestant, he said, “Each and every kid is good because they all have aim in their lives. When we were that young we had never even knew what we wanted to become.” Pathak feels all the kids have a good grasping power, because they get all the notes within just a few takes.

Despite the track being a little serious, the ‘Indian Idol Junior’ contestants had a gala time recording it. Nithyashree Venkataramanan, one of the contestants said, “I thank Sony LIV, Shivam and Shubham for giving us this opportunity. We went nuts while recording this song, but both of them were very patient with us. This was the first song I recorded in Hindi, as previously, I sang for four or five Tamil films.”

While some of the other contestants, like Ranita Banerjee, Vaishnav Girish and Niharika Nath, have already recorded in the regional space, the single was a brand new experience for Srilakshmi Belmannu.

It is also learnt that an album will soon be in the works, and will feature tracks by the top five, and top three contestants, and the winner of ‘Indian Idol Junior’, along with Pathak and Suman.
