Hoirong releases new EP 'Old Newz' on April Fool's Day

MUMBAI: Fresh off covering 90s R&B band All 4 One's classic song 'I Swear', independent band Hoirong is ready with its new extended play (EP) called 'Old Newz'. The band released their EP 1 April, as revealed lead vocalist Kamal Singh. He also confirmed that the three-track EP will be released exclusively on the band's Bandcamp page and later on OK Listen.

"Unlike most of our stuff, which is loud, for the EP, we have toned down the sound and made it acoustic, while maintaining similar harmonies. It is made using only an acoustic guitar, a ukulele and some drums. The EP has three songs, which are three individual stories. The first song is called 'Dandi', which means 'stick' in English. The song is inspired by an incident that happened in Delhi, where a man was beating one woman with a stick on TV while everyone around was just watching. He further added, "The second song is called 'No Probs Buddy, Better Luck Next Time'. It was conceived during the recent Indian Prime Minister election campaigns. The song just talks about how things will happen when they have to happen. The last song in the EP is called 'Where Are You?' and has been inspired by the recent Malaysia Airlines news. One aircraft disappeared, while the other crashed. The song is about that. These are what the three songs are about."

Singh also said that there is also a Hoirong album in development. However, the plan, for now, is to promote the EP. "The songs are there, but the name and release date have not been decided yet. But, the new album sounds would range somewhere between our first and second album. That is how it sounds, right now," added Singh.

He further elaborated that, even though, while the some of the other Hoirong work can be seen on iTunes, 'Old Newz' may not end up on the Apple store. "Uploading the tracks on iTunes is a little complicated. There are some specific clauses that need to be looked at carefully, given that we have not been signed under any label, we are independent. That is why, the process becomes a little complicated," Singh elaborated.

'Old Newz' is available for streaming and download on Hoirong's Bandcamp page.
