'Highway' leads GiMA nomination list

MUMBAI: The Global Indian Music Academy, GiMA, has announced nominations for its 5th edition. The Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda starrer, 'Highway' has been nominated in eight categories, followed by 'Ek Villain' with seven nominations.

The nomination list for the 'Best Playback Singer Female' includes names like Alia Bhatt, who crooned the unplugged version of 'Samjhawa' for the film 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya'. Other nominations in the same category include Kanika Kapoor for 'Baby Doll' from 'Ragini MMS 2', Nandini Srikar for 'Harjaiyaan' from 'Queen',  the Nooran Sisters for the peppy track 'Pataka Guddi' from 'Highway', Rekha Bharadwaj ' Aaj Ke Naam' from 'Haider' and ?Sunidhi Chauhan for 'Tu Kuja' from 'Highway'.

In the 'Best Playback Singer Male' Ankit Tiwari has been nominated for 'Galliyan' from 'Ek Villain'. He faces competition from Armaan Malik for 'Auliya' from 'Ungli', Labh Janjua for 'London Thumakda' from 'Queen', Sukwinder Singh for 'Bismil' from 'Haider' and Arijit Singh for the tracks 'Muskurane- Romantic' and 'Sunona Sangemarmar' from the films 'Citylights' and 'Youngistaan', respectively.

The 'Best Music Debut' category includes names like Armaan Malik for 'Auliya' for 'Ungli', Kanika Kapoor for 'Baby Doll' from 'Ragini MMS 2', Mukhtiyar Ali for 'Fanny Re' from 'Finding Fanny', Shraddha Kapoor for 'Galliyan' from 'Ek Villain', and Sultana and Jyoti Nooran for 'Pataka Guddi' from 'Highway'.

The 'Best Lyricist' category includes names like Amitabh Bhattacharya for the song 'Mast Magan' from the film '2 States', Gulzar for 'Bismil' and 'Dil Ka Mizaz' from 'Haider' and 'Dedh Ishqiya', respectively , Manoj Muntashir for 'Galiyan' from 'Ek Villian' and Swanand Kirkire for 'Chaar Kadam' from 'PK'.

In the 'Best Composer' category AR Rahman has been nominated for the film 'Highway', and faces Amit Trivedi for 'Queen',  Ankit Tiwari, Mithoon, Soch(Band) for 'Ek Villian', Sachin – Jigar, Sharib – Toshi for 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya', Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for '2 States', and Vishal- Shekhar for 'Bang Bang'.

Nominations for the 'Best Film Album' includes movies like '2 States' composed by Shankar – Ehsaan – Loy, 'Bang Bang' by Vishal – Shekhar, 'Citylights' by Jeet Ganguly, 'Haider' by Vishal Bhardwaj, 'Highway' by A R Rahman and 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya', whose music is directed by Sachin-Jigar, Sharib-Toshi.

Eric Pillai leads the nomination list for 'Best Engineer- Film Album' with three nominations for the films 'Citylights', 'Dedh Ishqiya' and 'Ek Villain'.
