'Galliyan' wins three Star Guild Awards

MUMBAI: Strumming the right chords, the song 'Galliyan' from the film 'Ek Villain', was touted as one of the best songs of the year 2014. And now, after bagging quite a few nominations, the track has started collecting its due. Composed by 'Sun Raha Hai Na Tu' singer Ankit Tiwari, the track recently won in three different categories at the Star Guild Awards held in Mumbai.

'Galliiyan' lyricist, Manoj Muntashir, beat out competition from Rashmi Singh, Anvita Dutt, Kumaar, Irshad Kamil and Swanand Kirkire to win the title of 'Best Lyricist' for the track.

Meanwhile, Ankit Tiwari took home the 'Best Music' award for 'Galliyan' in a category that included stalwarts like AmitTrivedi, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Himesh Reshammiya, Vishal Bhardwaj, Meet Brothers and AR Rahman.

Tiwari also won the 'Best Singer Male' award for the same track, fighting off competition from Arijit Singh, Labh Janjua, Sukwinder Singh and Shaan. The category saw Arijit Singh nominated for three different tracks.

Kanika Kapoor took away the award for 'Best Singer Female' for the song 'Baby Doll' from 'Ragini MMS 2'. She competed against Shreya Ghoshal, who was nominated for four songs and Sultana and Jyoti Nooran for their vocals in 'Pataka Guddi' from the film 'Highway'.   

The award ceremony will be telecast on 18 January 2015 on Star Plus.
