French rock duo- As Animals to cover Rihanna as a part of their India tour

MUMBAI: French pop/rock band- As Animals will be performing at blueFROG Mumbai on 6 November 2014 and will add a Rihanna cover to their set. As part of their Bacardi NH7 Weekender India tour, the band performed at the Kolkata edition of the festival last weekend.

The duo, Fred and Zara, met at a music school three years ago and have been working together since. He went for one of her performances and fell in love with her voice. "I was completely overwhelmed and thought it would be great if we work together. I love her style of words and music," said Fred. He started learning the guitar from age eight and Zara has always wanted to sing. As Animals is her first time as lead vocalist in a band.

As Animals’ first album released in Europe in January early this year by Label Atmosphériques, through whom they will also release their second album which in currently underway. Speaking of the album Zara said, "The album was made in three parts. We first wrote six tracks and then two and then three." The duo is best known for their song, ‘I See Ghost (Ghost Gunfighters).’ "We did not expect it to be this popular. It is truly amazing that people have shown so much love to the song," said Fred. ‘I See Ghost (Ghost Gunfighters)’ has been remixed by popular remixers Star Slingers and Paki & Jaro.

The duo cites Kasabian, Feist, Björk and Lykke Li amongst their main influences. And when asked why they picked ‘As Animals’ for the band’s name, Fred said, "It is when we work together, the instinctive side of Zara and I starts to emerge in our everyday life." But, being French, why release an English album? "With our common music influences, it was obvious," said Fred. In agreement, Zara said, "All the bands I listen to are English or sing in English. The question just does not arise."

In addition to the tracks from their album, they will also debut an unreleased track called ‘Thorough’ and a cover version of Rihanna’s hit duet with Mikky Ekko, ‘Stay’. The band will next perform on 8 November at the Bangalore edition of the NH7 Weekender.
