Ed Sheeran plans to bring in backing band for third record

MUMBAI: From entertaining thousands with just a guitar, loop pedal and his voice, Ed Sheeran has finally decided to recruit a backing band for his stage performances. The 'Sing' hitmaker revealed that by the time his third album is out, he intends on having a full band to back him up.

In an interview with the Sun, Sheeran stated, "In my head I've always seen the third record as where I get a band. The first gig we did on this tour was the Barfly in London, so I've gone from the Barfly to Wembley with a loop pedal. After that there's not much you can do with a loop pedal."

Since before shooting to fame, the 23 year old has only ever relied on an acoustic guitar and a loop pedal, a simple stage arrangement that has seen him perform at some massive venues, including sold out shows at Madison Square Garden.

Sheeran's idea of bringing in a band for his next album comes from watching pop superstar Justin Timberlake. "I watched Justin at the V Festival this year. You either don't have a band or you have a band like that, you go for it or you don't," he added.

The 'Thinking Out Loud' singer will be performing at London's Wembley Stadium next year, as part of his 'x world tour'. Sheeran was initially slated to perform only on 10 July 2015, but massive pre sales led to the addition of two more dates- 11 and 12 July.
