The Doppler Effect to release first single from upcoming album next month

MUMBAI: Delhi-based funk and progressive rock band The Doppler Effect released its first self-titled EP late last year, which was premiered at The Gig Week. Drummer Suyash Gabriel confirmed that the band is currently planning to release a brand new single, from its upcoming record, next month. Along with Gabriel, the band consists of Ashwin Nayar on the guitar, bassist Akshay Johar and vocalist Sherry Mathews.

The Doppler Effect’s self titled first EP reflected its journey, said Gabriel. “Three years ago, we got together as a band for the first time; and we immediately wrote our first song, ‘Believe’ (second on the EP). The speed at which we gelled as a band, and at which we composed the track; we took that as a sign and went forward,” he said. All of the tracks on the EP have been recorded with Skyharbor guitarist- Keshav Dhar.

“Since the release of the EP, the response has been incredible. We are very happy with it. People have been saying that our music is very retro/glam, while being contemporary at the same time. That was something we did not pay much attention to while writing. But, now when we listen to it repeatedly, we realise that it does sound like that. It is really refreshing listening to what people have to say,” stated Gabriel. He also added that since the release of the EP, the band has been getting more opportunities to perform live.

Gabriel also revealed that the band is currently working on a fresh set of songs for an upcoming album. “It possibly will be a full length studio album, or it could be an EP, we have not thought about that yet.” He also said that the new album will showcase how much they have grown together as a band. “There are differences in approaching songs; and also the influences for this record have changed. The new record will be groovier, along with funk and progressive elements. It is going to be more experimental,” he added. The band’s major influences include American rock bands Mr. Big and Extreme.

Gabriel said that the band plans a bigger marketing campaign for the new record. Currently, ‘The Doppler Effect’ is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon Music, OKListen and Nokia Music, while the tracks can be streamed on the band’s YouTube and Soundcloud pages.
