Ankur & the Ghalat Family's upcoming album expected to release later this year

MUMBAI: Ankur Tiwari’s Hindi band, Ankur & the Ghalat Family, recently finished recording its sophomore studio album at Cotton Press Studios, confirmed band’s new addition, drummer/ percussionist Vivaan Kapoor. The upcoming album is a follow-up to the band’s 2010 ‘Jannat’ and development on the record happened in just a week, he revealed.

Kapoor, who previously played in popular bands like Spud in the Box, The Other People and The Whirling Kalapas, joined Ankur & the Ghalat Family last September. “We started planning the album in late December. And, one week during the week, we had all the ideas laid out in front of us; it was that natural and spontaneous,” said Kapoor.

When asked how different would the record sound different to ‘Jannat’, he said, “Although I am new to the band, I can say that this record is very percussively strong. We have used interesting instruments such as the accordion and the xylophone for double tracks.”

Kapoor added that the album can be placed in the Hindi pop/rock category, with all the songs written by Tiwari. He also said that the album is yet to go into the post production stage, with mixing and mastering still left. The album is expected to release by the end of this year.

In addition to Kapoor and Tiwari, the Mumbai-band also consists of Sidd Coutto on drums, Johan Pais on bass and Gaurav Gupta on guitar. Kapoor also added that the band members videographed themselves while recording four songs as a special behind-the-scenes feature that the band will release online soon.
