Amit Trivedi to start performing for smaller audiences with Stage42's 'Secret Sessions'

MUMBAI: Amit Trivedi, famed Bollywood music composer of films like ‘Dev D’, ‘Udaan’ and ‘Queen’ has moved out of the studio and on to the stage with his band for live performances. The performances started with Mood Indigo back in 2010. Since then, Trivedi has performed at the NH7 Weekender festivals, and most recently, closed the 2015 Kala Ghoda Arts and Cultural Festival.

Along with composing for Bollywood films, Trivedi will continue performing live. However, he will perform for smaller gatherings, which he calls ‘Secret Sessions’. “My band and I, we are coming out with a new set called ‘Secret Sessions.’ It is very different from what I usually do. It is more quiet and easygoing. It is not as mad as NH7 or Kala Ghoda,” said Trivedi about his upcoming project.

Trivedi added that along with his original compositions for Bollywood films, there are many tracks that he has composed for himself, but those have not seen the light of day. When asked whether he would be premiering any of his independent music at ‘Secret Sessions’, Trivedi said, “Most likely, the set will only include Bollywood music, but I might play my unreleased tracks. I have not thought long and hard about it.”

Additionally, Trivedi also said that he is currently listening to tracks by classic English progressive trance group, Above & Beyond, and is a huge fan of jazz. “I attended ‘Jonnie Walker: The Journey’ last year and fell instantly in love with the music of Snarky Puppy,” he said. Snarky Puppy is a New York-based instrumental fusion band led by Grammy Award-winning bassist, composer and producer Michael League.

The GiMA award winner is currently composing music for upcoming Bollywood films ‘Shaandar’, ‘Bombay Velvet’, ‘Bhavesh Joshi’ and ‘Milan Talkies’. All the films are scheduled for release in 2015.
