Oz live music biz revenues dip, says LPA report

MUMBAI: According to a new report issued by Live Performance Australia, live music business last year slipped back to its mid-decade level but managed to generate more than $1 billion Australian ($832.7 million) in ticket sales. The survey, compiled by accountancy giant Ernst and Young, collated data from a sample of participants including ticketing giants Ticketmaster and Ticketek, and performing arts companies the Australian Ballet and Opera Australia, says a report in Billboard.

AIR sets up 10 new transmitters in J and K

MUMBAI: Under J&K Special Plan Phase-I, All India Radio (AIR) have also set up 10 new transmitters and upgraded 2 transmitters in J&K. Similarly under J&K Special Plan Phase-II, 11 number of DG Sets and 7 number of UPS have been approved for AIR. During the financial year 2009-10, an amount of Rs. 100 crore has been introduced for improvement of FM & TV coverage in J&K border areas. This scheme includes setting up of three FM/TV High Power transmitters at hilltops. In addition to this, Low Power Transmitters have also been proposed in uncovered regions.

Govt firms up AIR's Commonwealth Games coverage plan

NEW DELHI: While Doordarshan and All India Radio have the exclusive broadcast rights for Indian territory, an International Broadcast Centre will be set up in Pragati Maidan for the Commonwealth Games next year. An Expression of Interest has already been issued for shortlisting parties for this purpose, Parliament was told on Monday. There  will be a broadcast feed of seven hours thirty minutes daily on All India Radio besides the live commentary of the Opening and Closing ceremonies.

Mirchi to recommence 'Band Banaao Jeeturaj Ko Sunaao'

MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi's �Band Banaao Jeeturaj Ko Sunaao' is back on the station with a new season. RJ Jeeturaj will host the show which will be interspersed with �Klub Mirchi' that hits the airwaves every Saturday from nine in the evening. The promo for the band hunt is already on-air on the station. Participants can also send their entry by scrapping their numbers to the RJ through the social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter or e-mail it to him. A mock session will be held and the selected bands will get a chance to air their song on the station.

Fever hopeful of break even in near future

MUMBAI: HT Media's FM radio venture netted revenues of Rs 88.3 million in the quarter ended 30 June 2009, and the company expects to get into the black by next quarter. "The last quarter has been good," affirms Fever national marketing head Neeraj Chaturvedi. The station, that staked its claim to the number one slot (according to RAM figures) in some metros in May this year, has been holding its own within the top few players since, although the top slot has eluded it for some weeks.

Marathi music composer Chandavarkar no more

MUMBAI: Sitarist and noted composer Bhaskar Mangesh Chandavarkar died at a private hospital in Pune on Saturday night. He was 73. Chandavarkar, who was diagnosed with cancer two years ago, had revolutionalised Marathi music to a great extent and is known for his work in songs like Kunachya Khandyavar Kunache Oze, Sakhya Re Ghayal Me Harini and Ushakkaal Hota Hota.

T-Series snaps up 3 Idiots, Yahoo

MUMBAI:  Once again, the cream of Bollywood titles is headed the T-Series way. The music label has snapped up music rights of two highly anticipated films - Raju Hirani's Aamir Khan starrer 3 Idiots, as well as Ken Ghosh's Shahid Kapoor starrer Yahoo. 3 Idiots is scheduled for a Christmas release while Yahoo is likely to be released by the end of this year, or early next year. Also in T-Series' kitty is Blue, the Tony D'Souza film for which A R Rahman has compiled the score and pop star Kylie Minogue has lent her voice in one of the tracks.

Nokia tweaks Music desktop application

MUMBAI: Nokia recently announced that it has tweaked the Nokia Music desktop software by making some 'small enhancements' in key areas. The major change is the implementation of 'connection mode switching'. The primary use of this feature would be to easily select the mode of connection when users can plug their device to the computer.
