IMA forum 2009: Tourism ministry to promote music at Commonwealth Games

T-Series bags top notch releases - Kites, 3 Idiots, Blue

MUMBAI: T-Series has acquired the music rights of the much hyped forthcoming musical film from the Rakesh Roshan stable, Kites. The music label now has three big releases for the second half of 2009. Apart from Kites, the company has snapped up rights of Blue and 3 Idiots too. Among the films lined up, Blue is slated for an October release, 3 Idiots in December and Kites in January.

Govt earns Rs 527.1 mn from private FM players in 08-09

MUMBAI: The government earned Rs 527.1 million from private radio channels during 2008-09. During the previous fiscal, 35 FM radio stations were operationalised and a total of 248 stations were functioning in the country as on March 31, 2009. The ministry for Information and Broadcasting has prepared a cabinet note on the third phase roll-out of FM stations and official sources say that it will be soon pushed forward, says a PTI report.

2009 first half delivers mixed bag of music

MUMBAI: The first half of 2009 was a musical surprise for the Hindi film industry in spite of the prolonged multiplex strike. While some film music did extremely well, others just managed an average play. Although many of the films turned out to be box office disasters, the music made an exceptional note.  The year started with Chandni Chowk to China with composers like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Kailash-Paresh-Naresh, Bappi Lahiri-Bappa Lahiri and Bohemia coming on board. With a mixed bag of composers, the music got a mixed response.

Legendary lyricist Gulshan Bawra passes away

MUMBAI: Renowned veteran lyricist Gulshan Bawra passed away at his Pali Hill home in Mumbai on Friday morning. The 70 year old lyricist who penned popular yesteryear Hindi film songs like �Mere desh ki dharti', 'Khullam khulla pyar karenge', 'Yaari hai imaan mera' and many others was suffering from a prolonged illness. Gulshan was originally Gulshan Mehta and was named Bawra (madman) by film distributor Shantibhai Patel due to his fetish of wearing colorful shirts. The industry later referred him as �Gulshan Bawra'.

Radio One plans to raise Rs 500 million

MUMBAI: Radio One, the ailing FM radio business of Mid-Day Multimedia where BBC Worldwide has a 20 per cent stake, plans to raise Rs 500 million. "As part of the investment in our radio business, we are looking at raising Rs 500 million. We are in talks at this stage," Mid-Day Multimedia Group CFO & Mid-Day Infomedia MD Manajit Ghoshal tells Indiantelevision.com.

Warner Music reports $37 million loss in Q3

MUMBAI: Warner Music Group Corp.'s fiscal third-quarter loss widened as the company continues to struggle with a shift away from compact discs, as well as lower consumer spending and foreign-exchange impacts, say reports. The world's third-largest music company said its loss from continuing operations was $37 million, in the fiscal third quarter which ended on 30 June , compared with a year-earlier loss of $9 million. Revenue decreased 9.3 per cent to $769 million, but excluding foreign-exchange impacts was down two per cent.
