Wax Motif reimagines four tracks from Drake’s new Honestly, Nevermind album

MUMBAI: “Drake is one of my favorite artists, so when I heard he dropped a house album I streamed it immediately. After listening to “Tie That Binds,” I heard a clubbier version in my head and flipped that one first. But then I got carried away and spent 48 more hours in the studio remixing other records, whittling six down to four for you guys to hear.” - Wax Motif

Australian house maestro Wax Motif is always looking for new inspiration. Fresh off the heels of his and long-anticipated debut LP House of Wax, a bold artistic statement that’s amassed over 19 million streams since its February release, and subsequent Longstoryshort collaboration “On The Low,” the genre-blending producer continuously finds new ways to expand on his eclectic repertoire.

After selling out his first headlining show at Hollywood Palladium earlier this month, Wax Motif has unveiled four free edits from Drake’s recently released album, Honestly, Nevermind - an ambitious task that further showcases Wax’s consistently grand sensibilities. Inspired by the cohesive dance sound from one of the world’s biggest hip-hop acts, Wax Motif transforms the rapper’s minimal house-rap tracks into explosive, club-ready reworks.

On Wax’s rendition of “Massive,” he adds infectious, propulsive bass and tech-house grooves to the original’s retro, 90s-house aesthetic. For “Sticky,” he reframes the atmospheric Jersey-Club-inspired original into a dance floor-igniting banger. Wax adapts the moody, Spanish-guitar inflected “Tie That Binds” into “Ties That Bind (Ibiza Remix),” a vibey remix perfect for summer pool parties. He also reimagines the subtle “Keeper” into a vintage Wax Motif bass-house track.

Wax Motif has always bridged the gap between dance music and hip-hop, making him a perfect foil to bring Drake’s new album into the hearts of electronic music stalwarts. On Wax’s versions, Drake’s melodic rapping style melds seamlessly with the producer’s creative instrumental choices, providing electronic DJs plenty of fresh material to drop in their sets throughout the year.

Fans can catch Wax playing these edits, alongside other hits from his impressive catalog, at festivals like Electric Forest, HARD Summer, Veld, Breakaway, Moonrise, ARC and more.
