Nominated for best new act in the world at bandlab nme awards 2022 alongside global artists olivia rodrigo and inhaler

MUMBAI: Singapore-based singer-songwriter and producer Shye has released a brand new single "still trying", a follow-up to her recently released electro-pop mini-album 'hello TRINITY', out last year. Fans can listen to "still trying" here.

Feeling disconnected from her fans due to a lack of interaction without restrictions at live shows, the artist-producer wrote this song as a thank you to her listeners and a reminder to herself to never stop working hard. "I struggled a lot because I wasn’t sure if anyone was still listening," she explains. "It made me realise how I should never take things for granted, and also how much I enjoy my audience's company. This song is a thank you to anyone who has listened to my music and allowed it to take up space and time in their lives."

While it retains the essence that make a Shye track, "still trying" shifts away from the electro-pop sonic elements of 'hello TRINITY'. The mellow single is bound to resonate with fans of Shye's debut album, 'days to morning glory', as elements evident in the album have made their way into this intimate track. "I always found songs written in a 6/8 time signature very calming and comforting, so that was the initial idea that started it all. I also added a string section which was something I used to do a lot with my older songs but have not done for a while."

"A key point of the song is the second verse where everything goes a little muffled and I say 'close your eyes'. I’m not sure how many people will, but if you do, thank you… I wanted it to sound like I was speaking right next to the listener."

Shye's video for her track "CORDUROY" (taken from 'hello TRINITY') premiered last month on NME Asia, following her recent win at the Bandlab NME Awards 2022 for Best New Artist (Asia) and her nomination for Best New Act In The World alongside internationally acclaimed acts like Olivia Rodrigo and Inhaler.

The 19-year-old released her mini-album 'hello TRINITY' to mark her last year as a teen, a milestone in her career as an artist considering that she started performing and releasing music as Shye at the tender age of 16. "'hello TRINITY' tracks the internal unfolding of my ruminating thoughts of last year, to emotional processing, and finally the calm after the storm."

Shye's previous releases have swept streaming platforms in Asia, landing on Spotify's coveted New Music Friday playlists across 8 countries in Asia, .ORG, Indie Shuffle, Pop Rising, Workspace and Jasmine playlists as well as the cover spots for Spotify's Rising 65 and Women Of Singapore playlists. She was also added to KKBOX's (New International Music) and Apple Music's New Music Daily playlists. Her singles have been added to radio stations across Southeast Asia on stations including 98.7FM (SG), Jam 88.3 (PH), 98.6 Elfara FM (ID), and Radio EBS (ID).

In December 2021, Shye was featured on a billboard in New York City's iconic Time Square as part of Spotify's EQUAL campaign.
