EMI, Time Warner pull out of honeymoon

MUMBAI: Under strong protests from European regulators, EMI Group PLC and Time Warner Inc. scrapped their $20 billion music joint venture but pledged to try and resurrect the deal later in a more agreeable form. On Thursday, the two companies withdrew their application to the European Commission for permission to merge their music arms, stating they wanted more time to tackle objections to the tie-up.

Radio ads to get a boost as RAM expands footprint

MUMBAI: Radio Audience Measurement (RAM), launched by TAM Media Research in 2007 for the radio Industry, has expanded its footprint across nine additional Indian cities - Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Nagpur and Pune. RAM has also released its first set of findings in these cities based on respondent data collected during May-August 2011. In the last four years, RAM operated out of the four metros – Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Sony gets Abu Dhabi funds for EMI bid

MUMBAI: Sony Corp has secured financing from Abu Dhabi's investment fund for its takeover bid for rival music company EMI, according to PTI. Sony has financial support from �Mubadala', the Abu Dhabi investment fund, and media investment bank Raine, which would put the Japanese firm on a more equal footing with rival bidders including BMG Music Publishing, Ronald Perelman's MacAndrews & Forbes group, Universal Music and Len Blavatnik's Warner Music.

Immortal is a musical tapestry of 'Michael Jackson - The Immortal World Tour' by Cirque du Soleil's which will be released on deluxe double disc version and single disc. Samsung unveils streaming service 'Music Hub'

MUMBAI: Samsung has joined the escalating music 'cloud' crowd with the launch of its streaming service â€?Music Hub' which will start from 17 October. The service will offer endless music and videos on subscription basis for Galaxy-smartphones, tablets and Smart TVs.  Music Hub consists of over three million songs and around 11,000 music videos from all four record giants and independent labels. The streamed audio can be cached in a Galaxy device.

Blackberry wins over iPhone in India

MUMBAI: The world's largest technology giant �Apple' has lost its smartphone market to Blackberry makers Research in Motion (RIM). Apple faces problems to sell iPhone with 602 million active subscribers in the Indian market. The company has shipped 62,043 iPhone to India in the quarter ending 30 June, whereas, RIM and Nokia has sold more handsets due to the right product, timing and app, according to research estimated by IDC.
