Ferry Corsten provides hope with Heady new single ‘High On You’ (FT. Maria Marcus)

MUMBAI: Ferry Corsten has committed extended periods recently creatively exploring new ways to tie his wide breadth of musical influences into his music. His first single of 2021, ‘High On You’, features the vocal talent of Maria Marcus, is a true testament to the development of his artistry. Last year saw various projects, including his ambient album ‘As Above So Below’ under the FERR alias and the breakbeat-fuelled ‘Black Lion’ with Ejeca’s Trance Wax alias and most recently the melodic techno-leaning ‘I Don’t Need You’. Ferry’s latest offering is a breaky, garage-tinged number that represents a perfect balance of the sounds that inspire him, as he continues to break new ground and demonstrate why he’s been able to stay ahead of the curve throughout his long and distinguished career.

Ferry hits the sweet spot with ‘High On You’, combining the electronic sensibilities underpinning all his music with his love of atmospheric cinematics. Of which is highlighted by the exquisite strings and piano accompaniments that see Ferry delving deeper into his musicality to provide the perfect soundbed for Maria Marcus’ vocals to shine through.

On ‘High On You’, Ferry said: “I'm very excited about this release because it is way out of my comfort zone. I've always been a big fan of the mid 90's UK breaks sound. Combining that with the beauty of orchestral instruments is a very fresh take on music for me. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Maria on this song. The way she builds the track towards the end with all the various harmonies and layers is just incredible."

Maximising all this extra time in the studio, Ferry has taken new approaches to his music and used it to explore different sound structures. With his latest single, the hopeful ‘High On You’, Ferry has crafted a track that strikes the perfect balance between songwriting and rhythm. Lending itself to a broader diversity in sound that it is just as likely to be heard on the radio as it is in DJ sets over the coming months.

2021 looks set to see more innovative and refreshing new music from an artist that continues to carve out his niche in the electronic music space.
