Kavita Seth believes in reviving 'old literature'

MUMBAI: Singer Kavita Seth, who has carved a niche for herself in the industry, has been very vocal about her love for sufi music and ancient poems. She is one of the very few Bollywood singers who is know as much for her independent music as for her work in the industry. ‘Main Kavita Hoon’ is a series of albums as well as concerts around the works of celebrated poets of our country which are sung as well as composed by her. 

This time, the Iktara singer is back with an album containing eight songs inspired by the poems of Amrita Pritam, a very famous Punjabi poet who gave the world a treasure chest of poetry. Main Tainu Phir Milangi, Tidke Ghade Da Paani, Aj Akhan Waris Shah Nu, Wah Sajan etc., are some of the poet’s masterpieces. Kavita Seth, who fell in love with her work, dived into it to create a beautiful album to share this treasure with the world.

When contacted Kavita Seth, she said, ”I remember the first time I read Amrita ji’s poems, I was so mesmerised that I knew I had to do something with these poems and bring them to people, especially the younger audience who might not have had the opportunity to read these priceless poetry. I connect with each and every word she writes very deeply. I admire how she was way ahead of her time and fearlessly broke all stereotypes. It is important to revive, share and spread the priceless work of our poets and ‘Main Kavita Hoon’ is my attempt to do just that.”

She also stated that it took her seven-eight months to compose the melodies for the album but it turned out to be outstanding and she lived Amrita Pritam’s work during the whole creation process. 

As a part of ‘Main Kavita Hoon’, the singer has created magic on the works of various poets such as Mirza Ghalib, Rumi, Jagdish Prakash, Wasim Barelvi and is all set to roll out her album of eight songs which are based on the works up Amrita Pritam. She has already done concerts, performing these songs and is now releasing an album on the 28 August 2019 across all digital platforms.

Kavita Seth never fails to impress us and truly believes in reviving our old literature which people are forgetting about. In spite of being a popular playback singer, she is giving leverage to old poets of India.
