MUMBAI: Post a well-deserved break of a few years, the pioneers of Indian Electronica, Midival Punditz will be releasing a trio of singles in the latter half of 2019. The first, of three Punditz style, collaborative singles are out on July 26th, 2019.
Titled Rootha Yaar, the first single is based on the writings of Baba Bulle Shah and features Kolkatta-based Indian classical prodigy, Sukanya Chattopadhyay.
This song was originally written as part of the music, done for the popular web series on Amazon Prime called Made In Heaven, by Gaurav Raina and Tarana Marwah (Komorebi). The new version is the Punditz rendition of the same song, featuring a heavy dance floor groove and analogue synths, making it equally relevant at a club or for an easy listening session at home.
Each of these three new songs have a unique sound, borrowing from different styles of Indian Folk and Sufi music, and finally mixed with a distinct Punditz 2019 touch. Remixes of each of the singles by an amazing set of artists from across the world, such as Gaudi, Blot!, Komorebi and Curtain Blue will follow each release.
Gaudi, from the UK has contributed to productions, collaborations, song-writing and remixes for acts including The Orb, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Bob Marley, David Gilmour, Scissor Sisters, and Trilok Gurtu. Blot! from New Delhi is one of the most prolific and popular Electronic Music Artist in India and his music has seen worldwide popularity. Komorebi and Curtain Blue are known as the forerunners in the new generation of artists sprouting from the Indian Electronic Scene.
Earlier this year, as the Gully Boy soundtrack made waves across the country and Punditz’s contribution to the much-talked-about film’s soundtrack - Train Song, needless to say, stood out.
