Udit Narayan had almost lost on 'Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane'?

MUMBAI: We know about the iconic song, Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, but did you know the story behind its making? Well, Udit Narayan, who has crooned it, spilled beans about the famous number when he visited the sets of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs recently.

Well touted to be the Udit Narayan Special episode, the show will see the contestants impress Udit by singing his famous songs, while adding their own style to it. Udit will also take everyone back to the 90’s with his top numbers.

After contestant, Mohammad Faiz’s sang a magical rendition of Uditji’s superhit song Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane, the veteran singer shared the story behind its making. Not many know that Udit Narayan sang this song in one single take! And that’s not all, he struggled to get the song right because he had ticked off legendary director (Lt) Yash Chopraji and music directors Jatin and Lalit at that point. Well, we are curious to know what happened, aren’t we?

Reminiscing about it, Udit Narayan says, “I clearly remember, I had to reach the studio at 2 o’clock for my recording but instead reached at 6 in the evening. The entire crew, music directors Jatin-Lalit and Yash Chopraji were all very miffed with me for being late. The only way I could cheer everyone up was by singing perfectly. When I took to the mic, I couldn’t sing properly and this further worsened everyone’s mood on the set. Jatin Lalit tried to explain to me the situation and I was very stressed and troubled because I couldn’t lose the chance to sing for Shah Rukh Khan and Yash Chopraji. It came to a point where they decided to tell me to leave and wanted to look for another singer. I was stressed, nervous, scared all at once. I locked myself in a room and asked for God’s blessings. When I stepped out of the room, I walked up to Yash Chopraji and asked him to give me a last chance. He eventually gave me that chance and that’s how the song came into being. I sang three antra’s and it was a one-take song. By God’s grace, it turned out to be great.”

Well, this story of Udit is indeed about coming back from failures and the music maestro was kind to share. He indeed is admiring worthy.

Besides, Udit Narayan also shared about keeping a clause in front of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha director that he would sing Main Nikla Gaddi Leke only if he was signed for the remaining songs from the film.. Well, that did happen and Uditji received accolades for his remarkable singing.
