Sanah Moidutty recreates magic of Lalettan and Shobhana song

MUMBAI: No matter where people go and what they do in life, they will always stay connected to their mother tongue. A known singer with a melodious voice, who has rendered songs for movies like MohenJo daro and Gori tere Pyar mein, Sanah Moidutty has yet again come up with a cover of a very popular Malayalam song Karutha Penne.

The original song Karutha Penne features the iconic pair of Malayalam cinema - Mohanlal and Shobhana and this is among many chartbusters featured on this pair. Therefore, the obvious question, why this song? On this, Sanah replies, “I love this song and the movie too. I have grown up listening to this song.  So, there is a nostalgia element. Apart from that, all my previous renditions are in the melodious zone and this rendition is more of fun.”

The video of the rendition has its own charm. Standing true to the nostalgia element, where this song reminds Sanah of her mother, the video begins on a family note. “There is a guy, who is coming to meet the girl. So, there are many opinions from her family members, which range from visiting a parlour to behaving herself. The girl is actually looking forward to meeting the guy, but the heavy expectations from the family overburden her. The lead just takes off to her world of dreams where she can be herself.”

The Malayalam community has responded well to the track, “Most people have reacted well and appreciated the racial discrimination angle in the song. However, there are few people who are of the opinion that renditions or covers shouldn’t be done. The views, however, have been phenomenal”, says Sanah.

Apart from this rendition, Sanah has exciting plans hereon, “Well, I am planning for a couple of originals this year. Alongside, renditions of songs in regional languages including Hindi will also be my focus. I am also looking for collaborating with other musicians.”

She signs off by riding high on praise showered by the legendary Sonu Nigam, “I made this medley of songs originally sung by Sonuji and he happened to hear it. He was kind enough to praise it as his compliments mean a lot to me. He has been an inspiration for me and continues being so.”
