When Ajaz Khan taught us quirky lingo of 'Mumbai ki Gullies'

MUMBAI: He was once a boy from the naka who is now bhidu of the nation- Ajaz Khan. Way before the wave of Gully Boy kicked in, Ajaz Khan's lingo made its way to every gully of Mumbai.

Tapori language or Bambaiya Hindi was originally mouthed by Ajaz Khan. Words like Bohot Hard Hai, Vaat Lag Gayi are synonym with the actor. His stint in Bigg Boss earned him his gang of pantars that till date Ajaz Khan is fondly called Ek Number.

Ajaz describes his lingo as Bole toh ek number hai bhai. I have been a gully boy all my life. Bambaiya hindi for me is not a language to be learnt, it’s an emotion since my childhood. Main toh bolta hoon ki apun ki bhasha bohot hard hai."

Ajaz is the true blue Ek number bhidu of Mumbai. While Gully Boy has hit the box office with a bang, on 14 February, the movie has had a successful kick-start. Starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, the movie has been directed by Zoya Akhtar.
