Wishing ace lyricist Javed Akhtar a very happy birthday!

MUMBAI: The man behind some of the best screenplays in Hindi films, Javed Akhtar has given us some really memorable songs spanning almost past four decades. His first film as a lyricist is the iconic Silsila in 1981. Since then Javed Akhtar has given words to various emotions like romance, heartbreak, sadness, happiness, patriotism etc. Below are the few of the most amazing songs of the legendary lyricist, who celebrates his birthday today.

Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum - Silsila

Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum - song that has gone down in history as the most romantic song. The unmatched vocals of Lata Mangeshkar combined with the deep baritone voice of Amitabh Bachchan, and the lyrics by Javed Akhtar translates the sizzling chemistry of the lead pair.

Tumko Dekha Toh Yeh Khayal Aya

Aaj phir dil ne ek tammana ki, Aaj phir dil ko humne samjhaya - These beautiful lines sum up life in the best possible way. A ghazal pictured on Farookh Shaikh and Deepti Naval is all you need after a tough day.

Ek Do Teen - Tezaab

This song made everyone sit up and notice the talent of Madhuri Dixit. The song has colloquial language and thus caught attention of the masses and continues to rule the roost.

Katen Nahi Katate - Mr India

One of the most sensuous songs, Kaate Nahi katate is a reference point for budding lyricists on how to write songs from this genre without using any crass words.

Kuch Na Kaho - 1942 A Love story

An R D Burman composition, Kuch Na Kaho is a soft romantic song that sets the mood right for a lovely evening and the words of the song complement the tune.

Dil Chahta Hain - Dil CHahta Hai

Dil Chahta Hai turned out to be a landmark film, youthful, contemporary and chic. It is borderline unimaginable that someone of the older generation could pen such young lyrics. No Goa trip is complete without playing songs from this album.

Sandese Aate Hai - Border

It is a song that gives us civilians a sneek peak into the tough lives, army men lead. The toughest part for them is to live away from their family. Sonu Nigam, Roopkumar Rathod vocals bring the goose bumps and Javed Akhtar’s lyrics strike a chord.

Ghar Se Nikalte Hi- Papa Kehte Hain

Ghar Se Nikalte Hi is a cult song, which is perfect for day-dreaming. The dreamy eyes of Jugal Hansraj convey the beauty of the lyrics penned by the ace lyricist.

Kal Ho Na Ho - Kal Ho Na Ho

A philosophical take on life pictured at the beautiful locales on New York with Shahrukh Khan on the forefront and Sonu Nigam’s vocals serenading, this song can melt your heart.

Rut Aa Gayi Re - 1947-Earth

For a rather off-beat movie, this song composed by A R Rahman is a breezy track coupled with meaningful words. Sukhwinder Singh’s vocals enhance the beauty of the song.

Ajab Si - Om Shanti Om

A star-struck fan, expressing his feelings on seeing his favourite star, is the story of this popular song that introduced Deepika Padukone to the film world.

Rock On - Rock On

If Dil Chahta Hai is youthful, Rock On was a step ahead and crazy to say the least. To belong to another generation and pen lyrics that adapt so well with this generation, is indeed a calibre, someone like Akhtar can flaunt.
