Sonu Nigam yet again speaks his mind, wishes to be from Pakistan to get work in India!

MUMBAI: As clear is his voice so are his thoughts. After making his thoughts about judges on reality shows clear, Sonu Nigam, now, has spoken about undue attention to Pakistani singers at the cost of ignoring home-grown talent - a point that has been talked about for years now without a solution.

At a recent summit, Sonu Nigam didn’t think twice before expressing his wish to be from Pakistan, at least then he would get work in India, of course sarcastically. He also pointed out the involvement of music companies in making songs. Adding further, he spoke about the disparity in treatment given to Pakistani and Indian singers.

According to Sonu, music companies take money from Indian singers for music shows, which however is not taken from Pakistani singers. “Why to single out Indian singers? Atif Aslam is my friend and he doesn’t have to pay for shows neither does Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.”

This is not the first time that artistes from Indian music fraternity have raised their concern about increasing influx of Pakistani singers. Babul Supriyo, Abhijeet Bhattarcharya, Himesh Reshammiya are other noted singers, who have been vocal about their opinions on this topic.

While many believe art doesn’t have boundaries, it is also important to understand it is a full-fledged industry and brings income for the artistes. With increasing demand for Pakistani artistes, the opportunities get divided between Indian and Pakistani artistes.

Sonu Nigam has time and again voiced his opinions and thoughts without fearing the backlash. Last year, his comments, in a tweet, on banning loudspeakers used at religious places had sparked a massive controversy, leading him to shave his head and quit Twitter.
