One can always expect the unexpected from Rahman says Vipin Aneja after recording for 'Mozart of Madras'

MUMBAI: Vipin Aneja, is currently on cloud nine as he has recorded a song for the Mozart of Madra for A R Rahman. Before recording the Tamil song  for the upcoming Tamil movie Sarkar, Vipin had perfomed for the maestro for a live show, Unity of Light, however, according to him recording a song with Rahman was another experience.

Sharing his experience, Vipin says, “One can always expect the unexpected with Rahman bhai. I remember calling him to wish a happy New Year on Jan 2nd this year and before I knew he offered and asked if I will sing a Tamil for him and my response was anything for you.”

Continuing Vipin shares, “I had previously performed for his live shows but recording a song for him was a great learning experience.”

Vipin is not an unknown name in the playback singing; his song for the movie Aishwarya Rai starrera Jazbaa- Sehar, was well-received. The singer also shares his experiences working in both the industries, “There is not much of a difference honestly. But, since this song was in Tamil, the production team gave me four days to learn the language and understand the finer nuances. Rahman bhai sat on the recording table and helped me a lot. Even lyricist and the rest of the team helped me.”

Sharing about Hindi industry, Vipin says, “Here, of course, I know the language well. I remember recording the song for Jazba in flat half an hour. Unlike the previous generation of stalwarts like Lata ji and Ashaji, we have technology now, which simplifies the problem.”

He is one of the singers, who pays attention and understands the significance of lyrics. As he says, “We have some amazing lyricists like Irshad Kamil, Manoj Muntashir and Shelly. However, there are also some, who are writing really credible lyrics. But I believe in doing my work. Its upto us to keep putting good work in front of the audience and them to take.”

Vipin also says, “Now the dynamic is changing and this is why, I would want to continue with my independent music. As that gives me the liberty to do my kind of work. For example, I want to do some semi-classical track, but the opportunities for it are a few. I belong to the generation, who has appreciated singers like Jagjit Singh.”

About his future, he says, “I have recorded a track for the movie Pahadganj composed by Miko. It’s a very interesting track written by lyricist Shelly and another one in the movie Ameesha Patel’s production Desi Magic. There are also few collaborations for non-film music that are in the pipeline.”
