Grab your seat for a musical tribute to King of Pop, Michael Jackson at The Quarter

MUMBAI: On the occasion of his 60th birthday, The Quarter gets ready to pay tribute to the 'King Of Pop' through a musical event.

The musical extravaganza will have Elena Friedrich on Vocals, Clement Rooney on Keys, Marious Menelaou on Bass and Aron Nyrio on Drums and Anthony Cammarota on Guitar!

On the event, vocalist Elena Friedrich said, “The preparation is a process. Michael Jackson's music is very well known in most parts of this globe, so first steps are to know his music and his backgrounds well, feel the music and understand where it comes from, again, art is something that evolves constantly and many artists influence and have influenced each other through the history of music. It is important to draw the line to the past to define the future I strongly believe in that.”

“After knowledge, comes owning his songs and put my own experience into his lyrics, his rhythms, his statements. It is just more than simply studying melodies or reproducing sounds, at least from my point of view.

Join us on 29 August and you will see what I am talking about," Friedrich added.

Further speaking, she said, “When I pay tributes, I obviously incorporate some aspects of the artist, I am paying tribute to, in order to deliver the songs with the right vibe. But it is crucial for me doing it without losing the connection to my own personality. The music of Michael Jackson is a complex music, sounding easy. It is a full-time job to perform his music correctly but not being a clone, so there are nuances that I will definitely deliver his way, other aspects I will add or change adapting them to our time, the incredible musicians I am playing with.”

The music will be re-imagined with the uniqueness of us an individual’s recreating the music and not simply copying from the record. We try to personalize the music in a way to bring new life into it while still honouring what he would have done.”

Guitar player on board, Anthony Cammarota also said, “The songs won't be like you've heard them since we are limited by our technology and abilities to replace the sounds on his albums. But in that respect they will be reborn in a modern way and with an international touch since our ensemble has a member from all over the world.”

“On a visual level, I don't think that is something that should be considered because we are focused only on the sound since we are paying tribute to the music and not his aesthetics. Also, our jazz backgrounds will add quite an interesting touch to this show that most other MJ  tribute concerts would not have. Playing with the arrangements, more personal liberties and a spirit of spontaneity during the show,” he added.

Sharing a pleasant memory, Elena told, “We used to imitate Michael Jackson's moves and sound as many children of our generation Michael Jackson was a hero to many of us!”

Well, this event is indeed going to be a musical tribute to the King, who is still alive in our lives through his music.
