I decided to write a song for myself, which is not sad: Amanda Sodhi

MUMBAI: Indian-American singer Amanda Sodhi is back with her new single, I Don’t Write Sad Songs Anymore, which is an antidote to her previous creations.

Speaking about the song, “One day, after I woke up and was having my tea by the balcony of my Kolkata home, I felt at peace. And, right at that very moment, I decided to write a song for myself, which is not sad and this is how this track happened. I Don’t Write Sad Songs Anymore is a peppy number having an upbeat video. I have previously written happy songs for others but never for myself.”

“The random shift from Mumbai to Kolkata a year back clearly was good for me. Hence, I wanted to capture this happier phase of my life in a song and video as a reminder to myself. I hope this song brightens up everyone and that it doesn’t get lost in the clutter of fake views and likes,” she further added.

Born and brought up in Washington DC, Amanda Sodhi has explored every possible element of media, from acting to directing, song-writing, screenplay-writing and music.
“I haven’t formally learnt music apart from voice coaching. I was always a part of the music choir in school and have taken some western music classes, when I was in Mumbai,” told the multi-prolific artiste Amanda.

The artist moved to India a few years ago to pursue her dreams, “My family was of course not very excited with me leaving the United States and moving to Mumbai, India as they were worried about how would I adjust here,” shared Amanda.

Within a couple of years, Amanda moved to the city of joy, Kolkata and is currently based out of there. However, during her stay in Mumbai, Amanda wrote four songs and all of them were ‘melancholic’ according to her. “Your inner state of mind reflects on the art you create. I wouldn’t say that those four songs were autobiographical in any way, but yes, were a part of me.”

Her next release will be a Hindi song in association with Drishyam Play. She has also written lyrics for Sagar Desai for Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming series.

On her future projects, Amanda said, “Of course I keep sending my material to industry people. I am open if something good comes across. At the same time, I want to continue doing singles and my own songs. Therefore, I have decided to do at least one song a year. It’s an expensive thing to produce a song, but I would love to do it.”
