Documentary on Shankar Mahadevan to be screened across international platforms

MUMBAI: A Software Engineer who quit his job to pursue his passion for music sounds filmy. However, the journey must have been full of twists and brave decisions; and who wouldn’t want this interesting journey to be documented for music enthusiasts to learn from it. Well, Shankar Mahadevan fans will be elated to know that the singer-composers documentary was screened at the Stuttgart Festival in Germany last week. Directed by Deepti Sivan this documentary will be screened at many other International Film Festivals.

Shankar has been learning Hindustani and Carnatic music since an early age and has been a disciple to Pandit Shriniwas Khale. He started his music journey from singing for jingles like Cadbury Dairy Milk and many more to becoming one of the forefront playback singers in Bollywood and South Industry too. In 1999, Mahadevan formed a trio with two other well-known musicians Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonca, famously known as Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The trio composed music for some of the biggest blockbusters of Hindi Cinema like Kal Ho Na Ho, Dil Chahta Hai, Don-The Chase Begins to the recent Raazi amongst many others. Exploring every aspect of music from singing to composing to live performances, the artiste was also seen acting in Marathi blockbuster Kattyar Kaljat Ghusli, where he played the role of Panditji, a court musician.

Conferred many accolades and awards, individually and as a part of the trio, Shankar Mahadevan’s journey is no less than an inspiration for a newcomer or an aspiring musician. The documentary, Decoding Shankar, will showcase the journey of the prolific artiste from his early days till today, when he is one of the most sought-after music composers and singers in India.
