MUMBAI: An engineer who had a dream to be a politician turned into a Radio Jockey and currently setting hearts on fire with his acting capabilities. MJ Rohit is not a new name to Bengaluru. After being an Radio Jockey for over 10 years, his entry into radio was quite unusual.

“I was working when I had a desire to be active in Indian politics. But getting in politics is not an easy thing; you need financial or family backing. You also need to create a brand name, that’s when a friend suggested me to try, my luck in acting or radio. That is how I became an RJ,” narrates Rohitt.

His journey was quite interesting from a Radio Jockey to now an actor with a superhit Karva and another Buckasur with him. Despite the success in films, Rohit continues being a radio person. He recalls, “I went and auditioned at every radio station but got rejected for some or the other reason, but finally got selected by Big FM. I was a Music Jockey and would go on the streets of Bengaluru and connect with the common public. One day one of the main RJs quit and that’s how they asked me to take up the charge and I am glad.”

Rohitt has hosted two shows No Tension and Take it Easy, Nimma Stars, Namma Rockstar Jothe, literally meaning, your stars with our Rockstar (MJ Rohitt is popularly known as Rockstar). His earlier shows No Tension and Take It Easy had a decent run for three and a half years each and now this brand new show is making waves in Bengaluru.

The theme of the show is interviewing Kannada film stars with a span of 3-4 links of two minutes each followed by music for good 120 minutes. Big FM 92.7 in Bengaluru plays mostly retro music from the 60s till 2000 - Kannada. Rohitt says, “We play music that is upbeat and high on energy. Our target audience is usually of 25-45 and this age group connects well with this music. Whenever I happen to connect with my fans, they are sweet and kind and always compliment about music.”

Known for his wit, and amazing sense of humour, MJ Rohitt is a household name in Bengaluru, further his career as an actor and then his stint in Big Boss Kannada further made him an all-time favourite with the audiences but MJ Rohitt maintains that he is grateful to Radio and Big FM 92.7, “I will not leave radio till I am asked to leave.”
