Arijit Singh throws no attitude and is down to earth: Gwen Dias

MUMBAI: As humans, we tend to judge and some of these judgments turn out to be bang on while others fall flat. The saying, ‘Never judge a book by its cover’, is definitely a wise one as the content maybe really different and that seems to be the case with singer Arijit Singh. The Channa Mereya singer has a huge fan following and is liked by many, but very few know the real – Arijit Singh. There are rough ideas and some stories that have been flung in the media, but recently we got to learn a lot about the real Arijit from singer Gwen Dias, who is usually a part of his live band.

“Before Arijit gets on-stage, he’s yelling, cracking jokes and pepping us up. He did this at MTV India Tour and it’s remarkable,” reveals Dias on her MTV India Tour experience.

She further adds, “He’s a brilliant person and it's a proud feeling to be working with him. He throws no attitude and is down to earth. He is one of those guys from the bands, who would make you laugh. I am in awe of his versatility as he can do an R&B song with a classical song on the same line. I just love his simplicity and that’s what people love about him. He will come on stage with his chappals, giving a wow to a million hearts making it all just about music.”

Dias narrates an incident, “Once A Thousand Years track from the movie The Twilight Saga was out, (Arijit) just came out of the blue and told me ‘Gwen you should do a song like this it will suit your voice perfectly’. I was like ‘wow’ thank you. He’s quite supportive, very alert and knows your voice. Also, he’s a sharp musician.”

The Tum Hi Ho fame singer is altogether an outstanding person on stage, we were just curious to know him beyond that, “He is a grounded person who loves his family and friends, and he’s at ease when his family and friends are around. He prefers to keep his private life ‘private’ which I appreciate,” says Dias.

She has been touring with the Sanam Re singer for the past four years, further, she shares, “Next month we will be performing at the Gaana Festival in US, San Francisco.”
