We are influenced by the 70's Bollywood music: Autorickshaw

MUMBAI: Canadian Indo-fusion ensemble Autorickshaw, a mix of the Suba Sankaran, Dylan Bell and Ed Hanley will be performing at Si Bambai in Mumbai on 9 December 2017.

The group will bring their diverse repertoire of Eastern and Western elements at their third India tour. After, performing at Si Bambai the band will perform at Harkat Lounge on 10 December; Pianoman Delhi on 14-15 December and Gangtok Groove, on 23 December. The Indo-fusion band might even play at new venues in India.

“Si Bambai will be the first of the venues as part of our India Tour. We have launched our fifth album Meter in Canada and we will perform on music from this album. So, in a way it is an India launch,” says the Autorickshaw trio.

Meter is a 12 song album. The tracks include Horn Ok Please, Nature Bhai, Still Standing, Save Me, Hare Shiva, J'entends le Moulin, Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard, Eleven! and Hare Shiva.

“We are inspired by the meeting of different musical styles, Indian classical and popular music, western pop, folk, funk and jazz. We are influenced by the 70's Bollywood music,” states the band.

Autorickshaw was started by vocalist Suba Sankaran and tabla player Ed Hanley in 2002. Suba is the daughter of master drummer, Trichy Sankaran. Ed Hanley has studied tabla across India with top-level drummers. Dylan Bell (Suba's husband) is a multi-instrumentalist, playing bass, keys, voice, guitar, as well as beatboxing.
