I am proud to say that I am a director's composer: Amit Trivedi

MUMBAI: One of the most famous composers of the Indian music industry, Amit Trivedi has given us hits from his first Bollywood project Dev D. Each song of this composer is a masterpiece and there is a hidden secret to it. Would you like to know the secret?

The composer does not follow the patent one-two-three song making process. He prefers keeping it as organic as possible. Thus, he works as per the director's vision.

"I am proud to say that I am a director's composer. I like going deep into what the director wants and what the story requires. A lot of people hate me for this because they feel I only think about director’s choice, that I don't give hit songs and I don't think about the label. But all I say is that we make hits for cinema and I am here to create music for the cinema," said the composer.

"I love the experience of composing for cinema. The vision that the director has, that process excites me.  During Bombay Velvet, I researched for four years over Jazz music, in spite of not coming from the Jazz music background. During Kai Po Che I was in Gujarat, for Lootera I was in Bengal to understand and feel the concept. I like getting into the skin of the story," he added.

The talented composer is also a multitasker. His talent is not just limited to Bollywood projects. In fact, Trivedi also does music for ads and he has also worked on Coke Studio and independent music. How does one Trivedi manage it all?

To this, he said, “It’s very tough to do everything. I have to go through a mental conditioning. Bollywood has two things to do, one making songs two scoring for the film and they need different mind games. Then comes composing for ads, Coke Studio and independent music, this requires a lot of discipline. I am still in the process of being something and it is a pleasure to do so many things. The challenge is to be good at everything," said the Udta Punjab composer.

Trivedi had excelled in everything that he has picked but there is one thing that makes him feel unconventional and he loves it the most. "The only place where an artiste would feel liberated is in independent music. This is my experience. I have done two seasons of Coke Studio and I have felt like a boss. There is no actor, producer, label telling me what to do. It's just me, my music and my expression," ended Trivedi.
