Birthday Special: 11 things you should know about Ram Sampath

The celebrated music producer-director Ram Sampath who turned 40 today, is a prodigy and he constantly strives for better. We at Radioandmusic would like to take you through some of the facts about the musician which you should know.

  •  Both of his parents were musically inclined, while his grandfather TV Ramanujam was one of the founders of Shanmukhananda Hall (established in 1952), a cultural centre in Sion, Mumbai.
     
  •  Sampath has learnt Carnatic music for eight years and during his college he played keyboard in a rock band.
     
  •  His first toy was an LP player and his parents told him that from the age of two, he would mount his own LP and play it himself.
     
  •  Sampath started composing at the age of eight and by the age of 12, he was clear about the fact that he wanted to be a composer.
     
  • Ram Sampath started his career composing ad jingles and he has jingles for brands like Airtel, Docomo, Thums Up, Pepsi, The Times of India among others.
     
  • His first produced indipop album was Loveology (1996) and the singer was Shaan.
     
  • Ram Sampath met Sona Mohapatra in 2002 and got married within three years in 2005.
     
  • Best known for his work in Delhi Belly, Ram Sampath’s Bollywood debut as a music director was in 2004 for Rajkumar Santoshi’s film Khakee.
     
  • The musical couple is also business partners in their music production house OmGrown Music.
     
  • In 2009, he appeared as a judge of singing reality series, MTV Rock On (Season 1) on MTV India, along with singer Kailash Kher and Nikhil Chinapa.
     
  • Sampath is also the man behind the popular title track Tera Rang Aisa (2002) forSatyamev Jayate hosted by Aamir Khan.
