Zeenat Aman makes her singing debut with 'Love, Life & Screw Ups'

MUMBAI: Whether Bollywood stars should sing or not may have become a debatable issue, but this hasn’t stopped them from singing. And the latest actor to croon a track is the veteran diva, Zeenat Aman.

The actor has sung for the first time in a career spanning five decades. Aman lent her voice to upcoming web series ‘Love Life & Screw Ups’.

The actress who features in this web series was initially reluctant to sing as she is not a trained singer. In fact, the music director had also recorded the song with a professional singer. But, a few changes were made later.

“As this song is an introduction of the persona of Joanna, Zeenat Aman’s character in the series. And Joanna’s persona is the combination of Aman's full of life roles in movies like ‘Yaadon KI Baraat’, ‘Heera Panna’ and ‘Manoranjan’. I wanted that nostalgic essence,” said the director Kapil Kaustubh Sharma.

He further added, “Somehow, I convinced her to come to the recording studio and just give a try. We promised her that if her voice is not sounding right, we shall not keep her voice and will get it dubbed by another singer. Surprisingly, in her first take itself, the song got approved as her rendition was totally in sur.”

Composer Nikhil Kamath stated, “I was overwhelmed and surprised by the voice quality and energy she has at this age.”

The shoot of the series is complete and it is scheduled for May release. In April, it has a world premiere at a prestigious film festival in Poland.

The series is a feel good romantic comedy, targeted to the Indian as well as international audience. It is a first Indian series, in which along with Zeenat, there are various popular names like Mita Vashisht, Dolly Thakore, Yuvraaj Parashar, Diandra Soares, Sonali Raut, Sushant Divgikar, etc.

Bappi Lahiri too has sung a song in it. Recently its trailer was showcased at the Nashik Film Festival. It’s a first time for a series trailer to be at an international film festival.

The trailer will go online on 4 April 2017 on YouTube channel Aum Web Studios.
