Rahman's rearranged version of 'Take it Easy, Urvashi' to air on 'MTV Unplugged'

MUMBAI: Early last month music maestro AR Rahman took to social media seeking contribution from his fans to rearrange the lyrics of his hit song 'Take it Easy, Urvashi'.

His post read: "Dear friends, I'm trying to rearrange 'Take it Easy Urvasi' for a performance and wish to update the Charanams.

"Feel free to contribute.. Ofcourse please do leave out and avoid any reference to Hilary Clinton, Donald Trump or the currency situation for now and try to come up with something interesting & humorous in the same scaling of the original Tamil version.." (sic)

The post received more than a 1000 comments and after a month from there, the music composer has revealed the names of those lucky few, whose lyrics have been chosen to rearrange the cult song on his social media page.

His post read: "Remember when we asked all of you to suggest some funky ideas for re-arranging "Take It Easy Urvasi"..

"Well we had a lot of great ideas flowing and it was tough to pick and choose but finally we've gone ahead with contributions from:

Prasad Krishna - "Beltu Potoom Veshti Avundha"

Achintya Vatlu - "Helmet Potoom Mama Pidicha"

Rajesh Rajamouli - "Kadalai Naduvil Battery Thirndal"

Dileep Balaji - "Kizhinja Panta Fashion Nu Sonna"

Now wait to hear it :)" (sic)

On crowdsourcing, the lyrics for his iconic song, AR Rahman said, "Urvashi Urvashi is a song made iconic by fans who find it as fresh today as it was when it first came out all those years ago. So this time, to give it a bit of twist, we decided to let fans recreate it with lyrics they wanted to hear. The most beautiful thing about art is that it belongs to everyone and crowdsourcing is a great way to get newer audiences to connect. It was a fabulous experience and what we’ve got is some interesting stuff filled with references to current events which is just as vibrant as the original one.”

Rahman will perform the song – entirely in Tamil - for the first time ever on 'MTV Unplugged Season 6' on 14 January at 8 pm on MTV.
