I don't like to mince my words: RJ Abhilash, Red FM

MUMBAI: Red FM's RJ Abhilash created a buzz last week as he got popular stand up comic Kapil Sharma to meet a senior citizen Rahim Kasmani from Mumbai, who happens to be a great admirer of Kapil.

In a heart-to-heart conversation with Radioandmusic.com, RJ Abhilash Thapliyal who is known for his show ‘KaanPhaad’ shared his journey in the city of dreams, the uniqueness of his show and his future plans.

The Delhi native has made Mumbai his home now, but Abhilash Thapliyal has always been keen on theatre. During his second year of college, he went for an audition on Radio Tarang. “I was not expecting to get it, but eventually I did. I was paid Rs.20000 per month that time in Radio Tarang which was decent during my college days.”

He then moved to Radio City in Delhi, although only for three months. "It was a morning show. As I was constantly looking for something out of the box, I left Radio City and joined Radio One in the same year. At the same time, I was a voice over artist for National Geographic too.”

“Radio One’s show was music centric and I wanted to do something that was content oriented. After working with Radio One for six months, for the third time, I moved to Fever FM Delhi. I was focused on content and it worked well,” added Abhilash.

At the same time, Abhilash started another venture that is The Adventures Of MufflerMan, a course of action based on politics, current affairs and humour. Abhilash used to make funny videos and once his single video based on Kejriwal went viral. Thapliyal owns the IP now and he has tied up with online news and views venture, The Quint, to create entertaining videos in near future.

Abhilash landed in Mumbai in 2015 sans an agenda. “Red FM approached me and I jumped in for it,” he says.

About 'KhaanPhaad’, he says, “This show is all about those things which you are scared of saying or mentioning. I try to talk about everyday bizarre things and I don’t like to mince words."

What is worth mentioning is, Abhilash has this talent to look forward to a funnier outlook no matter what the topic is and that makes him stand apart. ‘Kaanphaad’ goes on air every Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 3pm only on Red FM, Mumbai.
