Bhushan Kumar has been a great mentor throughout: Gourov Dasgupta

MUMBAI: Gourov Dasgupta, the virtuoso guitar player, recently came to the spotlight after his notable compositions for John Abraham and Sonakshi starrer ‘Force 2’ along with his best friend and ace music producer Roshin Balu.

Also known as 'Gman' who's weighed against world famous guitarist Steve Vai, Gourov started his journey fifteen years back from the city of joy, Kolkata. Alongside, Roshin Balu, who hails from one of the most musical families in Kerala, after graduating from SAE Chennai and working for corporate music production company, met Gourov in 2008. Before venturing into Bollywood they made a mark as one of the industry’s leading music producers. Gourov's first movie release, 'Dus Kahaaniya' was a mammoth hit with chartbusters like 'Dus' and 'Jaaniye' with numerous nominations and rave reviews.

One-half of the duo Gourov Dasgupta and ace lyricist Kumaar recently spoke to Radioandmusic.com about their collaboration, journey, musical course of action and their current jam.

While talking about his musical expedition he said, “I come from a very different background, and I have been a fan of rock music since childhood. Before Force 2 happened, I was mainly concentrating on ads, jingles and I actually took some time off. Also, in 2014 after teaming up with Roshin and one of my closest friends Shaan, our life was quite eventful with the band Superbia. Me and Roshin just connected and ever since we started producing kickass music together.”

On that note, he added “Bhushan Kumar, the person in command of T-series has been a great mentor throughout. Without him, it wouldn’t have been possible.”

Gourov said that the first song of Force 2 ‘Rang Laal’ is their much-loved song and the other song ‘O Janiya’ was an overnight mission, made in just three hours.

“I am glad that we collaborated with lyricist Kumaar and it has taken our music to a new peak. We are like a family,” added Gourov.

At the same time, on talking about 'Force 2', the renowned lyricist of Bollywood Kumaar said when they were jamming together Bhushan Ji wanted the songs to be commercial yet something out of the box.

"I don’t listen to anyone, not even myself and I don’t follow any method of writing when it comes to penning down a song. I just focus to the requirement of the movie, also try to understand the mood of the song, that often work for me", said Kumaar.

"Also, I got the brief of the song and the movie, according to that I write songs. For me there is no agenda or fixed rule for writing, I prefer to go with the flow", added the leading lyricists of Bollywood who is famous for noting down songs like ‘Baby Doll’, ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’, ‘Sooraj Dooba Hain’, ‘Lovely, Desi Look’, ‘Nachan Farrate’, ‘Main Hoon Hero Tera’ and more.

Starting from Rock music to Bollywood, the journey was never easy, said Gourov. As of today Gourov, happens to be the first and only endorsee for ‘Ibanez Guitars’, the world’s no one guitar brand endorsed by the likes of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. This has been one of the most prestigious moments in Gourov’s career so far. Keeping up his love for guitar, Gourov is currently working on his first ever international guitar album 'Cosmic Roulette' to be release next year all across the globe.
