Oinam Johnson Meetei quits 'The Stage' due to ill health

MUMBAI: Colors Infinity's 'The Stage 2' contestant Oinam Johnson Meetei from Delhi couldn't perform last week due to ill health, but latest updates suggest that the contestant had to quit the show that's currently in its final stage.

Yes, Oinam opted to move out of the show. Says the singer, "I had to be hospitalised due to dengue. I was in hospital for six days after which I was asked to stay out of the competition by doctors. They felt that my body wasn’t ready to handle the pressure."

However, Oinam did get back to the rehearsals as he did not want to give up on what he loves most – singing. “My body was still weak but I tried singing. I had reached the Top 10. I kept telling myself that I could do it, like a hero. But I realised that I was really weak on reaching the rehearsals. It was hard to move out of the show, but I had to give up,” confesses the artiste.

The singer further recalls the moment when the judges made it a point to call him personally. "They called and texted. They weren’t very happy about the way I had to move out of the show."

The artiste is currently back home waiting to bounce back on the live stage, if not ‘The Stage’. Oinam has an experimental Sufi rock band that is active in the live space.

Though, Oinam has means to keep singing going he is a bit disheartened about missing on ‘The Stage’ opportunity. Especially after putting in his heart and soul in a genre of music that he had never tried before. “I used to sing all day because I am not an English singer. I used to work on remembering the lyrics and then the tune. I did not want to go wrong anywhere because the nation was watching me perform. If you go wrong anywhere where will you show your face,” confesses the singer.

The singer is away from Mumbai at the moment, but he is holding the city close. In fact, he has plans of getting back soon. “I am planning to relocate myself to Mumbai from Delhi,” states the singer who wishes to make it big in the music space.
