Daler back to Bollywood after self-imposed break

MUMBAI: The music launch of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Mirzya' in Mumbai on Tuesday turned out to be one of the biggest Bollywood events of the year so far.

At the event, singer Daler Mehndi who has sung the title track of the movie, told us why he had taken a break from Bollywood for the past five to six years.

The title track 'Mirzya' has been beautifully helmed by Daler Mehndi, who has in the past sung several title tracks for Mehra, including the 2006 film 'Rang De Basanti'.

"I am grateful to Mehraji that he believes in me and loves my voice. For the last five to six years, I was doing live shows but in Bollywood, I wasn't doing anything nor I was getting any good offer. I also couldn't sing because of the kind of songs that are being made these days. It was a different 'Mahaul' (atmosphere) and the times we are living in are strange too," said Daler.

"But the songs you will listen to in the film 'Mirzya' are pure Indian music," he added.

Daler also said that the soundtrack of the film has been crafted with pure soul, without corrupting the true essence of our Indian music.
