Video exposure for singers builds a brand: Arjun Kanungo

MUMBAI: After singing ‘Khoon Choos Le' for a Bollywood film, Arjun Kanungo made waves with his debut single 'Baaki Baatein' -- the music video of which featured him. He says musicians get more exposure in visual form.

"I have a degree in marketing, so from the way I look at it, if you are trying to build a brand, I think any exposure you get in the visual form is much more than the audio form," Kanungo, who was performing at the Gardens Galleria, Noida, told IANS.

Kanungo says his singles ‘Baaki Baatein’ and ‘Fursat’ have helped him gain recognition.

"I did playback music way before pop music... With the two songs I did, I've made several more fans than I made with 10 hit songs in Bollywood. With Bollywood, I didn't get as much recognition or coverage," he added.

The Mumbai-based singer, who won a Global Indian Music Academy Award for his debut single, says having one's face in a song makes a huge difference for musicians.

"People know who Badshah is, who Yo Yo Honey Singh is... They know all these artistes because they put their face on their songs," he added.

Kanungo is also a trained actor and studied acting in New York.

Asked if he plans to act in films, Kanungo said: "I am doing a web-series this year which I wrote myself... I think a web is a good way to start."

When does he plan to take out his next album?

"My next single will come out in end of September. It has got quite a few a Punjabi in it... It's not a ballad or dance song. It's completely something else," said Kanungo.
