A bit too far? Tanmay Bhat takes a dig at Lata Mangeshkar

MUMBAI: "There is always going to be a thin line when it comes to humour. It is always going to invoke radical reaction, either you are going to laugh at it or hate it." These are the quotes by SRK. He made this statement during the AIB Knockout controversy to PTI. We believe this statement is very relevant today as AIB's Tanmay Bhat finds himself amidst controversy, yet again.

For the uninitiated, a couple of days ago Tanmay Bhat posted a video titled ‘Sachin vs Lata Civil War’. In the video, Bhat is seen roasting the Bharat Ratna awardees, Lata Mangeshkar, and Sachin Tendulkar. The video went viral like most AIB videos, but this one garnered more criticism than applauds despite a disclaimer from Bhat that read: I make such nonsense on my Snapchat - follow me there - ID: Thetanmay. Also, I obviously love Lata and Sachin, just having some fun.

So, what in this video really made the loyal AIB fans dislike it?

Here are some punchlines that Bhat used for Lata Mangeshkar in the video.

- Lata Tai, you are 5,000 years old so please stay the f**k out of it.

- Have you seen your face? It looks like someone has kept you in water for eight days.

- Jon Snow also died, so you should also die.

Here is the entire video:

Here are a few jaw-dropping statements made at AIB Knockout, last year:

Karan Johar: I’m not saying Ranveer does shit films, but truly, the last good thing he was in, was Deepika Padukone.

Ashish Shakya: Parineeti Chopra is not here tonight because we told her she’d be f***ed by 10 dudes in front of 4,000 people. Karan Johar is here tonight because we told him he’d be f***ed by 10 dudes in front of 4,000 people.

Ashish Shakya: Ranveer, you did an ad for Durex – it was the first time I saw a condom being endorsed by an STD.

Raghu Ram: In Lootera, Ranveer digs a long, underground tunnel somewhere in Bengal. This only goes to prove that no matter how remote, dangerous or smelly; if there is a hole, Ranveer Singh will enter it.

We tried contacting Lata Mangeshkar’s team to get her take on the video but her team refused to comment.
