Ghazal exponents enthrall listeners in Jammu

NEW DELHI: Several renowned ghazal singers rendered soulful poetry at a Galaxy Series programme in Jammu to pay homage to Pandit Vijay Malla, legendary ghazal singer from Jammu and Kashmir, on the occasion of his fourth death anniversary.

Organised by Indian Cultural Forum at the K L Sehgal Hall in Jammu, the programme was presided over by noted social activist C M Seth with well known Surgeon of the State Dr Rajinder Chrungoo as the Chief Guest.

Apoorva Jamwal began with the poetry of Kunwar Sheharyar in Raag Jog. Rahul Kumar presented Ghazal of Nawab Daagh in Raag Darbari Kanhrha. Rishabh Dorje rendered a Ghazal of Adeem Hashmi in Raag Mishrkouns. Gursharan Kour mesmerized the audience with her Ghazal of Shaaz Tamknat in Raag Piloo.

Vivek Mohan presented lyrics of Khushbeer Singh Shad in Raag Shivranjani and the programme's music director Sham Sajan (who is president of the Forum) presented a Ghazal of Nasir Jounpuri in Raag Gawati. Noted flutist Anil Raina, upcoming table player Karan Malhotra and Sham Sajan on Harmonium accompanied the singers. Well-known cultural critic Ravinder Kaul anchored the programme.

A large number of writers, poets, artistes, musicians, singers and other dignitaries were present.
