101 India goes on-ground with 'Hip Hop Homeland Live'

MUMBAI: Youth content portal 101 India featured a novel digital series on the underground hip hop scene in India called 'Hip Hop Homeland' a few months ago. And as it continues featuring artistes in the underground scene under the same initiative, it is now extending this property on-ground. The on-ground extension is called 'Hip Hop Homeland Live.'

For the uninitiated, the series featured hip hop subculture which included rap and other forms of self expression like dance and visual art. The team at 'Hip Hop Homeland' managed to cover hip hop artistes from different parts of India and they continue doing the same. These artistes are nothing like our usual Bollywood rappers for they do not talk about girls, cars, and booze, but their rap is about real issues. Issues that they face in their lives.

"We are yet to cover the Northeast, Kolkata and Punjab," said 101 India chief creative officer Cyrus Oshidar.

101 India on-ground property will feature upcoming rappers like MC Mawali, MC Tod Fod, Mumbai's Finest and Delhi's Prabh Deep Sagar. 'Mere Gally Mein' fame rappers Divine and Naezy will headline the event.

"The on-ground event is a 360-degree extension of what we were trying to showcase through 101 India digital," stated Oshidar.

The event will take place on 27 April 2016 at antiSocial, Khar. It will be in partnership with MTV Indies.
